Installing an offline place

Set up an IBM® Lotus® Quickr™ offline place so you can work in the place while not connected to a network.

Before you begin

Installing an offline place requires a minimum of 66 MB of disk space, in addition to the size of your place. Make sure you have this much space available before you begin installing an offline place. In addition, make sure you have specified an offline password on your Member profile.

About this task

When you install an offline place, Lotus Quickr copies information from the server where your online place resides to your hard drive and synchronizes your online place and offline place for the first time. The entire process might take a few minutes or more, depending on the size of the place and the type of connection you have, but you can perform other tasks while Lotus Quickr installs the offline place.

Procedure

  1. To begin installing an offline place, you should be at the top level of the place.
  2. Click Place Actions > Take Place Offline.
  3. Click Begin Install. If your browser displays an alert box, click Yes. Follow the installation instructions specific to your browser until you get the option Install Now. Before the offline installer is started, text appears informing you of the encryption level that is used for this place, if offline encryption is enabled.
  4. Click Install Now.
  5. Depending on the security settings for your browser and whether or not you connect to your online place through a proxy server, your system might display a Security Warning or Security Information dialog box. Click Yes in response to this prompt, and answer any subsequent dialog boxes accordingly. The installation program now displays the installer dialog box, which lists the steps the program must perform to finish the installation of your offline place, and proceeds with the installation. A check mark appears next to each step as it is completed.
  6. Click OK when the installer presents you with a path name for the folder or directory where it will copy the offline Lotus Quickr files.
  7. Click Yes when asked whether you want to create a folder with the name you approved in the previous step. If this is not the first time you have installed an offline place, Lotus Quickr does not ask whether you want to create the folder.
  8. Close all your applications, including your browser, and then shut down and restart your computer. The installer will have created an icon labeled with the name of your place on your Windows® desktop.
  9. Start your offline place either double-clicking the Offline icon on the Windows desktop, and then selecting the place you would like to launch offline or by using the IBM Lotus Domino® Sync Manager.
  10. Once you finish installing your offline place, you can choose to install additional offline Lotus Quickr places on the same computer to allow two or more people to work with one place on the same machine.

Results

When you install an offline place on your computer for the first time, the Installation program prompts you for the name of a directory and uses that directory to store both the software and the data files for the offline place. When you install an additional offline place on the same computer, the Install program uses the directory you specify to store the data files for that additional offline place only; the Install program does not reinstall the software.

What to do next

If any of your offline places are encrypted, your offline password must be the same for each place. Failure to follow this rule may result in the inability to open some offline places.
